Betting The Cards
When deciding how to bet your cards in poker there are a few things to consider! What you have in your hand, what hands could possibly beat you and what hands you can beat.
The priority here is to bet on the strength of your hand. For example if you are handed a pair of Aces in the pocket, these are excellent cards to build on. If you receive an Ace, King suited they are also an excellent foundations for building a winning hand. Both of these starting hands are hands you would bet heavily on.
Most poker players that have any experience understand betting strategies know if they see their opponents checking rather than betting it will be conceived that the player is second guessing the strength of his/her hand. Another option would be that this perceived weak player is trying to lure his/her opponents into the game while holding a strong hand. If you are sitting on a strong hand don't be shy, go ahead and bet rather than check.
Remember when making your bets the opportunity to make a good return on your money must be evident. Betting 1000 chips with a pot that is sitting at 25,000 is an excellent risk vs. return. Read the cards that are out there on the table and how many of those cards will compliment your hand and how many won't. Using those odds to determine the possibility of winning your hand is imperative.
Ex: If you are sitting with Ace, King diamonds and the flop turns up 9d, 3d and 4c you know that there are 2 cards left to come and 3 of those suits won't help you, determine in your mind the odds of a diamond coming into play. If you are looking for that diamond the chances of getting it is 4-1, its time to ask yourself are the odds worth the risk? If the amount in the pot exceeds 4 times the bet then it is suggest you call the bet.
